Ahmad's Story

Ahmad is a 19 years old youth who came to Za’atari Camp years ago. Ahmad lived in the last years with a lot of stress and fear because of the reality of being a refugee living in a refugee camp with all difficulties he had to face through the years.

When Ahmad joined the #MeWeSyria hub for the first time he was very shy, very depressed, and never wanted to participate in anything. He used to tend to keep silent and just listen to others' conversations, until one day the facilitators asked the group to write a “The Hero Story” and share it with their small group of three, then the facilitators discovered a new “Ahmad” that they had never seen before.

Finally, Ahmad found his way to express his emotions and thoughts by writing them down on paper.  That was the point of change in his life. The facilitators knew that they, at last, found the way to bring him into the group and create a bond with other members.

It was not easy to involve  Ahmad with others and let him talk about himself, although he wanted to do that, his shyness and fear forbade him from that. Until the day, when the facilitators asked the group to write a story after having small discussions in small groups then Ahmad was talking freely with a smile on his face.

By the end of the hub, Ahmad was standing in front of a group of participants saying: “I cannot believe that I am talking in front of you today, this opens my eyes to the internal stories I have inside me and now I can see things from new perspectives. I’m thankful for all the information that I learned here in this hub.”
